RCB vs MI: In the thrilling encounter of the Indian Premier League last night, Royal Challengers Bangalore have kept the Mumbai Indians defeated by 14 runs and have kept their hopes of reaching the play-off. Even after losing 6 out of the eight matches played so far, the possibility of reaching the play-off of Mumbai Indians is quite small.

The 31st match played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Mumbai Indians decided to bowl first before winning the toss. The start of the Bangalore batting first was very slow. In the 8.4 overs, Bangalore scored only 61 runs and lost both openers' wickets. After that, Brendon McCullum (37) and Virat Kohli (32) shared a 60-run partnership for the third wicket. Seeing Virat and Brendon's batting, Mumbai Indians were looking for a big score at one time. But then Mumbai's bowlers returned to the match.

In the 18th over, Hardik Pandya bowled a wonderful ball to dismiss Mandeep Singh and Virat Kohli on the first two balls. Not only this, Hardik Pandya gave just 2 runs in this over and took the wicket of Washington Beautiful on the last ball. McLenangh, who took the last over of Mumbai Indians' innings, wasted no ball on the sixth ball, instead of 13 for two balls. Colin de Grandhom (23 not out in 10 balls, three sixes) in the last over of Bangalore's innings, Mitchell McLenaghn added 24 runs including three sixes to bring the team's score to 167 for seven.

Heardi was the most successful bowler for Mumbai who took 3 for 28 in three overs. Jaspreet Bumrah took one wicket for 22 runs in four overs.

Mumbai started getting bad

Chasing the target of 168 runs from Bangalore, Mumbai started off very poorly and the team lost the wicket of their four main batsmen within 47 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are going out of the first ball without losing the account.

After this Duminy and Hardik Pandya shared a 37-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Run out as fifth batsman on Duminy team score of 84. After being dismissed Duminy, Hardik, with his elder brother Kurnool Pandya (23), made a 56-run half-century partnership for the sixth wicket. Crunol is out on the team score of 140.

Mumbai had to score 30 runs in the last two overs to win, but Siraj gave only five runs in his last over and also got a breakthrough. Mumbai needed 25 runs in the last six balls but they lost their seventh wicket as hearty (50) on the first ball of the 20th over. Hridik was dismissed by Tim Southee.

Ben Cutting hit the second ball after the dismissal of Hardik, but Saadi ensured the victory of Bangalore by taking the third, fourth and fifth ball out. Cutting hit a six on the last ball which was not enough to win. Thus, the team could only manage 153 runs at the end of 20 overs and lost to Bengal by 14 runs. For Bangalore, Umesh Yadav took two wickets for 29 runs, Tim Southee got two wickets for 25 runs and Mohammad Siraj took two wickets for 28 runs.

Mumbai's playoff is difficult to reach

This is the third win in eight matches in Bangalore and it has come in fifth place with six points in the table, while Mumbai has faced the sixth defeat in so many matches. Mumbai has now moved up one place from the present position in the numerical position to the seventh spot. After the defeat in this match, the journey to Mumbai's play-off has become very difficult. If Mumbai Indians want to reach the play-off, then they will have to win all the remaining matches.
