New Delhi / Jaipur: Krishnamappa Gautam, who scored an unbeaten 33 not out in 11 balls, gave Rajasthan Royals a thrilling three-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in a thrilling IPL match here today.

Despite the 72-run partnership for the third wicket between Sanju Samson (52 on 39 balls) and Ben Stokes (40 off 27 balls), the Royals were looking back on the backfoot till the last over. Gautam took charge when the team wanted 43 runs in 17 balls and then reversed the match's dice. He made four fours and two sixes, reaching the target of 168 for seven in 19.4 overs.

Earlier, Mumbai had scored 167 runs for seven wickets. Suryakumar Yadav (72 off 47 balls) and Ishan Kishan (58 off 42 balls) added 129 runs for the second wicket, but Mumbai got only 37 runs in the last 35 balls and in the meantime Kieron Pollard (unbeaten 21), who lost six wickets, was the third batsman to reach double figures.

Finally, the match's all-rounder, 29-year-old all-rounder Gautam Rahi, hit Mushfiqur Rahman's six and six fours in the last two balls of Mushfiqur Rahman in the next over and then in the next over of Jaspreet Bumrah, two boundaries in the next over. The Royals needed ten runs in the last over. Gautam hit the first half on Hardik Pandya and then hit the winning six on the midwicket. This is the third win in the Royals' six matches, while the Mumbai team, which lost the first three matches, lost the five games in the five matches.

The Royals had lost to Rahul Tripathi (09) and skipper Ajinkya Rahane (14) in the wicket of PowerPlay to start the innings. Tripathi gave a simple catch to Krishnal Pandya at mid-on, Rahane caught on midwicket in an attempt to play long shots.

The responsibility of the Royals was on Samson and Stokes but they could score only 70 runs in the first ten overs. After the powerplay, only once in the next four overs, the ball reached the boundary line. Stokes broke the silence of Mitchell McClenaghan's six and six fours in consecutive balls.

Stokes and Samson were on the crease but the required run rate was steadily increasing. The Royals reached 100 runs in the 13th over. At such a time, Hardik Pandya threw Stokes' leg stumps on the Yarker.

When the team wanted 44 runs in the last four overs, then Bumrah got Samson and Jos Buttler out on balls and spread sensation in the rails camp. But Gautam's intentions were something else and he did not delay in turning the dice. On behalf of Mumbai, Bumrah and Hardik Pandya took two wickets each.

Earlier, Mumbai's innings spun around Suryakumar and Ishan but the Royals bowlers got a good turn. Jaffra Archer, playing his first match in IPL on behalf of his side, took three wickets for 22 runs while Dhawal Kulkarni took two wickets for 32 runs.

Ishban and Suryakumar took responsibility after being dismissed in the first over of Ivin Lewis (zero) and reached the score of 100 in the 11th over. With this he also completed his centennial partnership.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar showed more speed. He completed a half century in 29 balls with a beautiful six over Shreyas Gopal over cover area. The six that was erected on the Cow Corner in the same over of Ishan was also visible. Suryakumar also got a life of 55 runs on his personal yoga.

Ishan played 35 balls for his half-century. In this way both of them had set a good platform for death overs but the Royals bowlers made a good comeback and they also took wickets with the curb at the speed of the run.

Kulkarni broke the century partnership with Ishaan caught behind the wicket. Suryakumar also reached the pavilion by scoring a ball in the air in the next over of Jayadev Unadkat (one wicket by 31 runs) while Rohit got out after facing only one ball. Ishan made four fours and three sixes while Suryakumar hit six fours and three sixes.

Fast bowler Bowler took his maiden wicket of IPL as Krishnal Pandya (seven) and then in the same over, his younger brother Hardik (four) and Michelle McLenagan's guerrillas scratched.
